UNF Racing Team Honors John Campion for $150,000 Donation Pledge

Additional sponsors recognized during reception dinner

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. September 21, 2016 – Last week, the University of North Florida Osprey Racing Team honored John Campion, Chairman and CEO of APR Energy, for his title sponsorship of the team. John was presented with a crystal trophy during the program’s annual sponsor reception—hosted Sept. 14 in the UNF University Center Board of Trustees Room.

Following remarks from UNF Racing Team President Peter Bohn, Mark Tumeo, Dean of the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, expressed the team’s gratitude for Campion’s gift of $150,000 over five years to the race team. Other sponsors were also honored with appreciation plaques.

“It is wonderful to see the passion within this team and the hard work each member puts into this program year in and out,” said Campion. “I thank each of you for the opportunity to let me give back to something that brings joy to my family and our community.”

Campion presented this year’s $30,000 check to Dean Mark Tumeo as he stood with the 2016-2017 race team and the Formula SAE car the team constructed. After the ceremony, Campion spent time with each team member, discussing the team’s current goals and passion for UNF Racing.

The UNF Racing Team is a 20-member student organization operated through the UNF College of Computing, Engineering and Construction. As the team continues to grow and compete in national Formula SAE races, contributions like Campion’s are vital.
